Breast Cancer Awareness Art Project

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and I’ve had the honor for the past 7 weeks to work on a beautiful art project called KAB Breast Cast to raise awareness and money for breast cancer through the Keep A Breast Foundation. I casted myself and I photographed all 86 casts and the Castees with their cast. It was one of those beautiful projects that fills you up and brings so much joy. I feel so grateful because this is the coolest Art project ever for women and Breast Cancer Awareness.

So What is a Breast Cast?

Twenty years ago, Keep A Breast created the first KAB Breast Cast. The cast is from the boobs down to the torso, and made into artwork. Since the creation, over 1,000 casts have been made and painted by artists. The casts are then auctioned and sold, raising funds for KAB’s education and support programs. These art exhibitions have taken place around the world, including Paris, Mexico City, Sao Paolo, Los Angeles, London, New York, and now, Nashville.

Our goal is to create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind art exhibition for Tennesseans to enjoy, share, and educate the community about breast cancer prevention and early detection.

The women in this exhibition represent strong, fierce, and empowering individuals. They were cast to honor women in their lives who have been affected by breast cancer, who they have lost to breast cancer, or simply to celebrate the healthy breasts that they have. They chose to be included in this exhibition to create a conversation around breast cancer in their communities.

Why have I poured my heart into this?

Last year when I started this project by getting casted it was a passion project for all women; to empower women to own their health journey.  Then one of my close friends got diagnosed with breast cancer. She had to be her own advocate to get the care she needed. It was eye opening. Her strength and resilience has amazed me. I've had her in mind and heart every step of the way.

And connecting and being present with all the beautiful women and souls, all 86 of them, who are a part of this project was beyond inspiring, it gave me life.

If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that we are all in this together, nothing is certain, and anything is possible. Turn doubt into determination and you become unstoppable.
